Research Engineer / Assistant (Biodiversity) - JK2

About the role

Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), a University of Applied Learning, is recruiting a Research Engineer / Assistant (Biodiversity) for its Engineering research division. As a university that works closely with industry and government agencies, SIT's research staff gain applied research skills on projects. This fixed-term role joins a research team developing coastal biodiversity and environmental sustainability projects in the Engineering Cluster.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator and team members to meet all deliverables.
• Carry out field studies in coastal marine habitats, including sampling of fish, macroinvertebrates and potentially plankton.
• Process specimens and data collected in the field in the laboratory.
• Analyse data and write technical reports and scientific papers.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors and suppliers.
• Maintain equipment independently and within a team, and communicate internally and externally to meet project goals.
• Perform ad-hoc duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) for RE/RA or equivalent; prior experience in coastal ecology preferred.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Leadership qualities, motivated, responsible and a fast learner.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
• Strong initiative and ownership of work.
• Some physical fitness for extended field work in tropical coastal environments and occasional weekend flexibility.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.
• Data analysis with R, Primer and PC-Ord is desirable; training provided if needed.
