Research Engineer II – AI for Sustainable Living

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Engineer II to join the Alibaba‑NTU Global e‑Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) at Nanyang Technological University. The role focuses on developing AI‑driven solutions that promote sustainable living and green recommendation systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team to design, develop, and evaluate AI‑based solutions for sustainable living and green recommendation systems.
• Collect, organize, clean, and preprocess multimodal datasets—including textual, behavioral, contextual, and sustainability‑related data—for AI modeling and analysis.
• Build efficient data‑processing and experimentation workflows to support user modeling, preference understanding, behavior analysis, and personalized sustainability recommendations.
• Conduct experiments, assess model performance, analyze results, and iteratively improve AI models and systems.
• Work with multidisciplinary researchers and contribute to research publications, technical reports, project deliverables, and demonstrations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field (PhD candidates welcome).
• Strong programming and software development abilities with experience implementing AI‑based systems.
• Knowledge or hands‑on experience in NLP, Large Language Models, Multimodal AI, Recommendation Systems, or Intelligent/Agentic AI.
• Research or project experience in data‑driven AI, intelligent systems, or recommendation technologies is preferred.
• Experience handling multimodal or domain‑specific datasets is an advantage.
• Analytical, problem‑solving, and proactive attitude with good communication and teamwork skills.
