Research Engineer II (GUI & Visualization)

About the role

The Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI), jointly established by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), is looking for a Research Engineer II (GUI & Visualization). The role carries out research on simulation environments and controller enhancement tools for air traffic management, supporting human-in-the-loop experiments and proof of concepts up to Technology Readiness Level 4.

Key responsibilities

• Build a proof-of-concept GUI client that displays real-time aircraft state, routes and conflicts
• Develop interactive tools such as drag-and-drop strip editors and coordination dialogs
• Visualize radar and sector overlays and aircraft labels using PyQt or lightweight React
• Consume REST and WebSocket APIs for updates from the Coordination Server
• Work with Simulation and Backend Engineers to visualize test aircraft trajectories
• Build testable UI components and logs for scenario demonstration

Required profile

• Minimally a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with over 6 years of experience
• Prior experience visualizing real-time spatial or simulation data
• Deep understanding of UI state management and asynchronous updates (WebSocket/polling)
• Proficiency in REST API integration and basic UX design

Required skills

• Strong experience with PyQt5/PySide2 or React.js
• Knowledge of GIS/aviation data (GeoJSON visualization, radar overlays) is advantageous
