Research Fellow – Additive Manufacturing & Materials Characterization

About the role

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to support a funded project focused on additive manufacturing of metallic materials and coatings. The role involves advanced microstructural and mechanical property investigations, as well as corrosion‑related studies.

Key responsibilities

• Produce metallic components using additive manufacturing techniques.
• Perform microstructural characterization (SEM, TEM, EBSD, nano‑indentation).
• Measure tensile properties, fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth.
• Investigate corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, erosion and hydrogen embrittlement.
• Prepare scientific reports and publish research findings.
• Mentor MSc and final‑year project students.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science & Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a reputable institution.
• Hands‑on experience with advanced alloys and their mechanical testing.
• Proven publication record, including at least one first‑author paper in Acta Materialia.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
