Research Fellow – Air Traffic Management Algorithms

About the role

The Air Traffic Management Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Fellow to develop intelligent methods and decision‑support tools for air traffic management. The role involves applying data‑driven techniques to advance ATM algorithms and support both current and future airspace concepts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on methods and approaches supporting air traffic management studies and applications.
• Develop, test, and evaluate analytical models, algorithms, and tools using operational and simulated data.
• Support research activities related to airspace and air traffic operations under existing and future ATM concepts.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to create prototype solutions and decision‑support tools.
• Analyse results and assess performance and applicability of developed methods in realistic operational scenarios.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers, and project deliverables, and participate in meetings and reviews.
• Contribute to research proposals, technical documentation, and other project‑related activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Transport, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant research experience in air traffic management or related technical research.
• Familiarity with air traffic management systems, airspace operations, or air traffic operations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for technical reporting and academic publishing.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage time effectively and meet defined timelines.

• Programming for research and data analysis (e.g., Python).
• Numerical and analytical skills for model development and evaluation.
