Research Fellow – Battery Electrochemistry
ntu · Singapore
Job description
About the role
The School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to advance battery electrochemistry under extreme conditions. The role bridges experimental work and data‑driven modelling to develop next‑generation lithium‑ion batteries.
Key responsibilities
- Design and evaluate electrolyte systems for lithium‑ion batteries operating across wide temperature ranges and high voltages.
- Develop and apply in‑situ electrochemical characterization techniques to probe reaction kinetics and interfacial phenomena.
- Build and curate standardized multimodal datasets (numerical, spectral, imaging) for AI‑driven optimisation.
- Contribute to physics‑based electrochemical model reformulation and integration into knowledge‑integrated AI frameworks.
- Publish findings in high‑impact journals and present at international conferences.
- Assist with manuscript preparation, grant development, and reporting to funding agencies.
- Mentor junior researchers and support laboratory management, procurement and equipment coordination.
Required profile
- PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong research track record in electrolyte design, interfacial electrochemistry or lithium‑battery systems.
- Hands‑on experience with in‑situ electrochemical characterization techniques.
- Familiarity with solvation chemistry, electric double‑layer theory and electrochemical modelling (e.g., pseudo‑2D models) – highly desirable.
- Experience or willingness to engage in data‑driven approaches and collaborate with AI/ML researchers.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary, multi‑institutional research environment.
Required skills
- Electrolyte design
- Interfacial electrochemistry
- Lithium‑ion battery systems
- In‑situ electrochemical characterization
- Solvation chemistry
- Electric double‑layer theory
- Electrochemical modelling (pseudo‑2D)
- Structured dataset curation
- Collaboration with AI/ML for model development
What we offer
- Opportunity to work in a leading multidisciplinary research centre.
- Access to state‑of‑the‑art laboratory facilities and advanced characterisation equipment.
- Support for publishing, conference travel and professional development.
