Research Fellow / Engineer (Project Manager – Biodiversity)

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Fellow/Engineer to act as Project Manager for biodiversity‑focused research, primarily on mangrove ecosystems within the Engineering Cluster. You will support the Principal Investigator in overseeing multiple research teams and delivering project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise multiple research projects to ensure deliverables are met.
• Develop and organise educational and outreach programmes on mangrove ecology and restoration.
• Conduct field studies in coastal marine habitats, including sampling of fishes, macroinvertebrates, plankton and mangrove vegetation.
• Perform laboratory work such as sorting and processing specimens and associated data.
• Analyse data and contribute to technical reports and scientific publications.
• Co‑supervise student projects alongside the PI.
• Maintain and update laboratory/project risk assessments in compliance with Work, Safety and Health regulations.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to meet project goals.

Required profile

• PhD or MSc with 6‑8 years of relevant experience; coastal ecology background preferred.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and leadership qualities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
• Physical fitness for extended field work in tropical coastal settings; occasional weekend flexibility.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Adobe applications.
• Data analysis using R, Primer or PC‑Ord (training provided if needed).
