Research Fellow – Lipid Regulation and Diabetes

About the role

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow to join a high-impact project investigating how intracellular lipid regulation changes under different diets and how the endocrine pancreas can be better protected under obesity and metabolically dysregulated conditions. The project uses genetically modified mouse models, human islets and multi-omics approaches to study cell stress and resilience. It sits within the Molecular and Cellular Dysfunction in Diabetes Laboratory, which focuses on type 2 diabetes and metabolic conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out in vitro assays and experiments, including histology, western blotting and immunofluorescence microscopy
• Perform in vivo experiments and animal studies
• Use computational biology to integrate results and identify perturbed pathways
• Help write research grant proposals, including literature reviews and preliminary data
• Contribute to research outputs such as manuscript writing and conference presentations
• Mentor and supervise undergraduate and PhD students and junior research staff
• Collaborate with research teams to meet overall research goals

Required profile

• PhD in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or a related field
• At least 2-3 years of experience in molecular biology, cell culture, imaging or metabolic disease models
• Interest in lipid metabolism, autophagy/lipophagy and diabetes pathophysiology; knowledge of how circulating immune cells interact with tissue-specific immune cells is a plus
• Entry-level candidates with strong experimental skills and interest in metabolic disease research are welcome

Required skills

• Immunoblotting, immunofluorescence microscopy, qPCR and animal handling
• Familiarity with regulatory standards, good laboratory practice and IACUC protocols
• Ability to draft scientific manuscripts and present findings
