Research Fellow (Protection) - PDL1

About the role

Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), a University of Applied Learning, offers a fixed-term Research Fellowship (Protection) in its Engineering Research Division. The fellow joins a research team investigating the effect of explosions and impacts on thin steel plates, working alongside the Principal Investigator, Co-PI and team members. The posting starts on 16 July 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with collaborators and the service provider the organisation and execution of blast and impact tests, ensuring the required data is collected and analysed.
• Conduct numerical simulations using LS-Dyna and OpenRadioss to understand the phenomena and calibrate empirical and analytical models.
• Carry out risk assessment and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors and suppliers.
• Maintain and operate equipment properly, both independently and within a team.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders needed to meet project deliverables and carry out any ad-hoc duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline; a Master's or PhD is advantageous.
• Experience in advanced finite element analysis (e.g. ABAQUS, LS-Dyna, Radioss or equivalent).
• Able to build strong working relationships with people inside and outside the university.
• Self-directed learner, with strong analytical, critical thinking and technical writing skills.

Required skills

• Finite element simulation and experimental work.
• Knowledge of shock mechanics, protection engineering and nonlinear material modelling is advantageous.
