Research Fellow – Secure Microchip Design for Quantum Key Distribution

About the role

We are seeking a Research Fellow to lead secure and reliable research on microchips used in quantum key distribution (QKD) systems. The role involves identifying hardware‑level security vulnerabilities and developing attack‑resistant designs within the National Integrated Centre for Evaluation (NiCE) at NTU.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hardware security analysis of microchips, focusing on attack vectors such as laser probing and e‑beam probing.
• Investigate emerging attack techniques and evaluate their impact on hardware security.
• Build testing environments and perform physical security evaluations to assess real‑world performance.
• Study protective mechanisms and collaborate with QKD system, photonic, and electronics teams to integrate security features.

Required profile

• PhD in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Physics, Microelectronics or a related discipline.
• Hands‑on experience in hardware security evaluation and analysis.
• Ability to operate lab instruments such as oscilloscopes and lasers independently.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
