Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow – Mitochondrial Micropeptide Discovery

About the role

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow to lead a project focused on discovering and functionally validating novel mitochondria‑derived micropeptides that regulate energy expenditure in adipose tissue.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, plan and execute the research project from hypothesis generation to data interpretation.
• Identify novel translated open reading frames in the mitochondrial genome across multiple mouse and human adipocyte models.
• Develop and apply an integrative proteogenomics workflow combining ribosome profiling, mass spectrometry and bioinformatic analyses.
• Characterise the functional impact of identified micropeptides on adipose tissue metabolism and systemic energy homeostasis.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and communicate findings through reports and scientific publications.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related life‑science field.
• Demonstrated track record of independent research in proteomics, genomics or metabolic biology.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to design and troubleshoot complex experimental pipelines.
