Research Scientist - Green AI and Machine Learning

About the role

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL), supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund, develops green digital technologies for global sustainability. It is looking for a Research Scientist to design intelligent algorithms and system frameworks that optimise cost, performance and scalability, focusing on machine learning and reinforcement learning to improve storage and service efficiency under dynamic workloads. The role bridges theory and practice through close collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement novel machine learning and large language model (LLM) algorithms for Green AI applications.
• Research efficient AI techniques, including model optimisation, parameter-efficient fine-tuning, self-training, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering and efficient inference.
• Run experiments, benchmark algorithms and analyse performance using rigorous scientific methods.
• Publish research findings in leading AI conferences and journals.
• Work with cross-functional teams to turn research outcomes into deployable technologies.
• Stay up to date with developments in Green AI, foundation models, code intelligence and AI systems.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning and large language models.
• Experience with large-scale datasets and distributed model training.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, good written and verbal communication, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Required skills

• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
