Resident Physician

About the role

NUH is recruiting a Resident Physician who provides patient care and supervises the day-to-day running of clinical wards. The role also involves teaching and mentoring junior doctors, handling urgent referrals and on-call night duties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient care and supervise the daily running of clinical wards.
• Supervise and teach House Officers, Medical Officers and Trainees.
• Manage cold and urgent referrals that are not specially referred to a named consultant.
• Escalate difficult and complex cases to a Consultant on call when specialist intervention is needed.
• Oversee write outs and endorsements on consultation and referral letters during emergencies outside office hours.
• Take part in ward rounds, hospital teaching seminars and clinical case conferences.
• Represent the hospital at Coroner's inquests and medico-legal hearings involving admitted patients.
• Work night shifts and other on-call duties, and compile confidential mortality reports for the Chairman Medical Board.
• Surgical residents may perform elective and emergency operations within the complexity permitted by senior staff, and teach basic operative procedures.

Required profile

• A basic or post-graduate medical qualification from an accredited medical school, registrable with the Singapore Medical Council.
• At least 1 year of housemanship and 3 years of medical officer posting (or equivalent).
• Ability to take charge of own learning, good diagnostic and clinical management acumen, and strong teamwork.
