Senior Assistant Manager – Research Development

About the role

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at NTU is seeking a Senior Assistant Manager to lead its Chair’s Office Central Administration. This role will be pivotal in expanding the School’s research funding portfolio by shaping funding strategies, preparing competitive grant proposals, and supporting faculty throughout the grant lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic initiatives to grow the School’s research portfolio in line with national and international priorities.
• Identify, evaluate and advise on funding opportunities from agencies such as NRF, MOE, A*STAR and industry partners.
• Drive end‑to‑end preparation of large, multidisciplinary research grant proposals, including technical narratives, budget planning and compliance checks.
• Collaborate with Principal Investigators to refine research concepts, highlight innovation and maximize funding potential.
• Provide advisory support on grant budgeting and coordinate post‑award financial matters.
• Assist faculty with progress reporting, grant variations and administrative coordination.
• Act as the School’s Research Data Governance Manager, ensuring compliance with institutional and funder requirements.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in research development, grant writing or research management, preferably in a university or R&D setting.
• Familiarity with Singapore’s research funding landscape (NRF, MOE, A*STAR) is advantageous.
• Proven track record in preparing large competitive grant proposals and coordinating multi‑investigator submissions.
• Excellent technical writing, analytical and stakeholder engagement abilities.
