Job description
About the role
Micron Technology is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for its Smart Manufacturing AI (SMAI) Operations Intelligence (OI) team, based in Singapore. You will design and implement advanced scheduling, mathematical optimization and discrete event simulation solutions that drive fab performance, partnering with multiple departments and a global network of manufacturing sites. The role requires proven hands-on or research experience in factory scheduling, optimization modeling and discrete event simulation.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop smart manufacturing and AI solutions in advanced factory scheduling, mathematical optimization and discrete event simulation.
- Develop data analytics and applications that give management and manufacturing teams actionable insights.
- Work with global sites to identify opportunities and deliver solutions that improve production metrics.
- Drive global alignment and benchmarking of scheduling and simulation solutions across Micron's manufacturing sites.
- Explore new ideas, concepts and technologies to enable breakthrough solutions.
- Use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve efficiency, quality and effectiveness, and share AI-enabled improvements.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of hands-on or research experience in factory scheduling, mathematical optimization modeling or discrete event simulation in a manufacturing or operations context.
- Willingness to travel overseas for global site engagement.
Required skills
- Applied knowledge of mathematical optimization and operations research, including LP, MIP and meta-heuristics, with optimization modeling experience.
- Hands-on experience with discrete event simulation (DES) applied to manufacturing, scheduling or operations problems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, and ability to work independently.
- Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI tools responsibly.
- Highly desirable: optimization solvers such as CPLEX or Gurobi, DES tools, hybrid approaches combining operations research with data-driven and AI methods, reinforcement learning or multi-agent systems, direct factory scheduling experience, and exposure to semiconductor or high-volume manufacturing operations.
