Senior Executive, Chemical Store

About the role

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at NTU is looking for a Senior Executive to support the Store Manager with the daily operations and safety of the Chemical Store. The role also supports the Chemical Store Assistant Manager in meeting the high-volume needs of students, research teams and faculty, covering bulk purchases, forecasting, supplier negotiations, deliveries and the online inventory system.

Key responsibilities

• Safety compliance: follow safety protocols, handle and store hazardous materials properly, help the safety committee and safety officer enforce regulations (including flammable substances, bio and chemical waste, and SCDF/SPF-regulated chemicals), document controlled chemicals, inspect the storage facility, arrange repairs and train staff and interns.
• Daily store operations: accept and check supplier deliveries, move and store items safely, process internal purchases, run periodic cycle counts, source quotations and negotiate with suppliers, forecast and monitor inventory, update the in-house online inventory system and give feedback to vendors.
• Waste management: manage waste from collection to disposal in line with government regulations, submit NEA E-tracking documentation, and work with the internal safety team on ad-hoc chemical disposal.
• Finance: generate and process monthly invoices, maintain records of invoices, accounts and grants, liaise with stakeholders so transactions are credited to the school budget, and process billing and intrabilling for supplies, equipment, shared facilities and teaching labs.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in logistics, warehousing, chemistry, engineering or a science-related discipline.
• 1-3 years of experience in education, logistics or warehouse work; a science background is preferred.
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, biology or engineering, safety regulations, waste management and basic finance.
• Effective negotiation skills and ability to find competitive pricing for chemicals, consumables and solvents.
• Resourceful, independent, able to work under pressure, proactive and a conscientious team player.

Required skills

• Ability to use data and apply robust analytics to assess cost, impact, risk and benefits.
• Knowledge of chemical safety regulations and best practices.
• Knowledge of SAP is an added advantage.
