Senior Legal Counsel / Assistant Director, Legal

About the role

The University is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel or Assistant Director, Legal to support the Director of Legal. This fixed‑term position provides strategic legal guidance across the institution, ensuring compliance, risk management, and effective corporate governance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, risk‑based legal advice on contracts, data protection, litigation, procurement and other business matters.
• Manage and advise on projects assigned to the Legal Division.
• Mentor and supervise junior legal staff and oversee delivery of legal projects.
• Perform company secretarial duties for the SIT group, including board advisory, preparation of meeting materials and minutes.

Required profile

• Advocate and solicitor qualified under the Legal Profession Act 1966.
• 6–12 years post‑qualification experience with a mix of private practice (corporate/commercial and litigation) and in‑house work.
• Experience in company secretarial functions, preferably in an institutional or listed‑company environment.
• Broad expertise in contract, tort, employment, company law, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, arbitration, IP, IT, PDPA, OSA, investment, anti‑bribery, crisis management and procurement.
• Strong organisational, analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• High professional integrity, sound judgment and emotional intelligence suitable for a university setting.
