Senior Manager, Intellectual Property Office

About the role

SingHealth Intellectual Property (SHIP), part of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre, is looking for a Senior Manager to turn healthcare innovations into real-world solutions. The role sits at the intersection of medical research and commercial innovation, helping bring breakthrough healthcare technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate invention disclosures for patentability and commercial potential, working with inventors and patent agents to draft and file patent applications.
• Prosecute and maintain an active patent portfolio by responding to Patent Office actions through agents while keeping IP commercially viable.
• Support translational funding applications by advising research teams on IP sections and reviewing commercialisation strategies.
• Negotiate and manage IP agreements such as collaboration agreements, material transfer agreements and non-disclosure agreements under senior oversight.
• Identify potential licensees, conduct due diligence, benchmark technology value and structure licence deals.
• Promote awareness of IP commercialisation among clinicians and researchers, attend internal workshops and speak at innovation and commercialisation events.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, biomedical engineering or a relevant scientific/engineering field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
• Candidates with a Law degree and relevant experience will also be considered.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in academic and/or industrial settings involving IP identification, protection or commercialisation.
• Ability to work assertively, influence key stakeholders and build business relationships and partnerships.
• A track record of successfully negotiating commercial contracts with industry partners is preferred.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of intellectual property protection and rights law.
• Familiarity with contract and corporate law preferred.
