Senior PLC Engineer

About the role

The Senior PLC Engineer designs, develops, programs, commissions and supports industrial automation systems based on B&R Automation platforms. The role leads automation projects, develops machine control software, integrates motion control and Metasys CIM systems, troubleshoots complex technical issues and provides technical leadership to engineers or SI partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC software using B&R Automation Studio, including machine control logic, sequences and safety functions
• Configure and program B&R PLCs, HMIs, industrial PCs and I/O systems, and maintain reusable software libraries and standards
• Develop operator interfaces with Metasys CIM/Pcvue and integrate PLC systems with SCADA, EMS and manufacturing intelligence platforms
• Integrate industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA and interface with third-party equipment and field devices
• Take part in technical discussions with customers, review functional specifications, write software design documents and carry out FAT and SAT
• Support machine commissioning and startup globally, and ensure project delivery within schedule and quality standards
• Mentor junior engineers, review code and deliverables, establish coding standards and guide troubleshooting
• Diagnose control system issues, perform root cause analysis and provide remote and onsite support

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or Industrial Engineering
• 7+ years of industrial automation experience, including 5+ years of hands-on B&R or other PLC work
• Proven experience in machine automation and building management system applications
• Willingness to travel internationally for commissioning and support

Required skills

• B&R Automation Studio, Structured Text (ST), Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD)
• Safety PLC programming and IEC 61131-3 standards
• OPC UA, SQL databases, C++ knowledge preferred
• Version control (Git, SVN)
