Senior Research Engineer – Satellite System Hardware

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at NTU is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead hardware development for satellite‑based energy‑harvesting sensor systems. You will design, prototype, and validate low‑power smart‑sensor platforms that monitor structural health of buildings and bridges.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop MCU/MPU/SOC platforms for satellite applications.
• Analyse system requirements and produce modular specifications.
• Select and qualify components for space‑flight operation.
• Build, test, and modify hardware prototypes.
• Validate circuits and overall system performance.
• Write and debug embedded C code and program FPGAs.
• Create PCB layouts that meet EMC/EMI standards.
• Document design processes, specifications, and test results.
• Coordinate integration of subsystems and support satellite mission operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronic Engineering or a related field (Diploma with strong industry experience may be considered).
• Proven experience in MCU/MPU/SOC embedded system design and programming.
• Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic research environment.

Required skills

• Embedded C development for MCU/MPU/SOC platforms.
• FPGA programming.
• PCB design using Altium or OrCAD.
• Analog and digital circuit design.
• Experience with CAN, SPI, and I²C bus protocols.
• Use of debugging tools such as bus analyzers and spectrum analyzers.
• Schematic capture and circuit simulation.
