Senior Research Fellow – CFD & Building Energy Modelling

About the role

The Energy Research Institute at NTU seeks a Senior Research Fellow to lead the development of advanced CFD engines and building energy models. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to create cloud‑based AI frameworks for energy valuation and support translational research for tropical megacities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new CFD solutions in collaboration with academic and industry partners.
• Identify research and technology development priorities and provide technical leadership.
• Design and implement OpenFOAM methods, processes, and workflows.
• Develop mesh, solver, and post‑processing methodologies to improve CFD efficiency.
• Support, monitor, and optimise CFD tools, ensuring alignment with commercial capabilities.
• Conduct energy‑usage analysis for various scenarios and produce detailed reports.
• Publish research papers and create supporting documentation.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in CFD development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work at a fast pace and adapt quickly to new information.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CFD solvers such as Fluent, STAR‑CCM+, and 6Sigma.
• Advanced OpenFOAM development and C++ programming.
• Python programming and Unix shell scripting.
• Experience with energy‑modelling tools: SketchUp, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, TRNSYS.
