Senior Research Fellow – Materials Chemistry & Chemical Engineering

About the role

The School of Materials Science & Engineering at NTU is seeking a Senior Research Fellow to lead the design, synthesis, activation and characterization of porous polymer microspheres. The role involves developing up‑scaling processes, conducting life‑cycle assessments, and collaborating with clinicians for material testing within an interdisciplinary team of chemists, biologists and material scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced characterization of porous particles using SEM, BET and related techniques.
• Develop and implement workflow for scaling‑up synthesis processes.
• Create methodologies for in‑depth structural and functional studies and improve instrumentation setups.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation of research findings.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on LCA, scale‑up planning and clinical study design.
• Mentor interns, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Assist in grant writing and secure research funding.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, manage procurement and liaise with suppliers.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with morphological and structural characterization techniques.
• Familiarity with electron microscopy, NMR, BET or similar methods is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, responsible and passionate about research.
