Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform & AI Enablement

About the role

Airwallex's Platform Engineering team is building the next generation of foundational infrastructure for real-time AI enablement and global financial data, moving beyond standard pipelines to a high-performance, distributed ecosystem. This role suits engineers who enjoy the internals of distributed systems, JVM performance tuning and architectural patterns such as Lakehouse and real-time data. The position is based in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical decisions and custom development for core infrastructure components, from foundational storage to high-availability service layers.
• Tune performance and systems internals such as state management, checkpointing and exactly-once semantics to achieve millisecond-level accuracy at global scale.
• Build and integrate the Knowledge Platform, using scalable vector indexing, agentic workflows and real-time data streaming to power AI-driven products.
• Own the full SDLC of high-performance batch and streaming systems that process petabytes of data across 30+ global regions.
• Promote strong engineering practices and contribute to shared tooling, SDKs and automation frameworks.
• Mentor mid-level engineers through design reviews and technical leadership.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure platforms.
• Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals: distributed systems, memory management and networking protocols.
• Proven ability to take 0-1 ownership of complex technical challenges from design to production stability.
• Interest in emerging AI/ML infrastructure and real-time systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin or Go.
• Hands-on experience (or willingness to dive deep) into Kafka, Flink, Spark, Kubernetes or OLAP engines.
