Senior Software Engineer, Notification Platform

About the role

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN and TikTok. Its Notification Platform team builds and operates the core infrastructure that delivers customer and internal communications reliably at scale across SMS, email and push channels. As a senior software engineer, you will be a strong individual contributor owning complex components and raising the quality of the team through example and collaboration. The role is based in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain a resilient, high-throughput, low-latency Notification Platform delivering messages (SMS, email, push) to customers worldwide.
• Maintain a high architecture standard through an event-driven architecture requiring scalability, traceability and automation.
• Identify opportunities to improve adoption across channels such as WhatsApp and inbox notifications.
• Work with Product, Engineering and Design teams across Airwallex's global offices, sharing data insights.
• Troubleshoot production issues across the stack.
• Work closely with the Issuing Platform team, which is a primary consumer of the platform.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or an engineering-related major, with enterprise-grade software design and delivery experience.
• 5+ years of experience in modern engineering practices for large-scale, low-latency, high-throughput systems.
• At least 3 years building distributed systems with middleware (e.g., Kafka, PostgreSQL) and hands-on experience managing, maintaining and tuning event pipelines.

Required skills

• Strong capability in modern languages such as Java, Python or Go.
• Familiarity with Java memory management, multi-threading, high concurrency, IO/NIO and network communication.
• Preferred: hands-on Kafka implementation, PostgreSQL, Redis or NoSQL, and messaging patterns and resilience.
