Senior Software Engineer, Risk

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Risk for its Risk Platform team in Singapore. The team builds the decisioning infrastructure that protects businesses and decides in milliseconds whether signups are real, payments are safe and logins are genuine, using streaming pipelines, graph databases, machine learning and LLMs. The role is based in the Singapore office five days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Build and enhance payment products and transaction systems using Java or Kotlin, designing components on the microservice framework.
• Improve systems that protect products and services, using graph databases, machine learning and LLMs for risk management.
• Drive architectural improvements across distributed, high-concurrency systems and improve reliability and scalability of payment, transaction and risk systems.
• Build services that detect and mitigate evolving fraud risks.
• Partner with senior engineers to raise coding standards and mentor less-experienced engineers.

Required profile

• More than four years of core Java development and more than five years building internet applications, large financial systems or e-commerce platforms.
• More than three years developing risk or payment platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, owning outcomes and collaborating across time zones; willing to be in the office five days a week.

Required skills

• Strong Java, including multithreading, high concurrency, I/O, NIO and network communication.
• Design patterns and large-scale distributed, high-concurrency, highly available systems.
• Familiarity with Spring, Spring Boot and RESTful services, and with Gradle, Maven or similar build tools.
• Familiarity with JSON and XML.
• Preferred: risk-management and fraud-detection knowledge, graph databases, machine-learning models, Apache Kafka or Flink, and ClickHouse, Spark or NoSQL databases.
