Senior Staff Back-End Engineer – Pricing Platform

About the role

As a senior staff back‑end engineer on the Pricing team, you will architect and build the next‑generation pricing determination platform that powers millions of daily transactions. You will lead technical design, drive best‑practice adoption, and collaborate with engineers across geographies to deliver highly reliable, scalable services.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a hands‑on engineering leader with deep expertise in open‑source technologies and distributed systems.
• Design layered applications and ensure top‑quality architecture for pricing and commerce systems.
• Partner with product owners and business stakeholders to translate problems into robust technical solutions.
• Define roadmaps and a technical vision for scalable growth of the pricing platform.
• Collaborate with other Coupang engineering teams to build extensible services that enable innovation.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional experience in software design and development.
• Strong experience with distributed systems and building large‑scale enterprise platforms.
• Exceptional analytical and deep‑dive skills; a bar raiser for engineering excellence.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java or similar JVM‑based languages and experience with Spring Boot.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures, stream processing using Kafka or Flink, and real‑time data pipelines.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps best practices.
• Background in e‑commerce, marketplace, or high‑traffic consumer‑facing platforms.
