Senior Underwriting Specialist

About the role

Prudential is hiring a Senior Underwriting Specialist to assess the medical and financial risks of applicants for life and health insurance policies. The role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate the risk and exposure of potential clients.

Key responsibilities

• Assess medical and financial risks of applicants for life and health insurance policies
• Make decisions, within the given authority, that are consistent with underwriting standards and compatible with market trends
• Review cases with complex medical conditions and multiple risk factors
• Take part in face-to-face and phone/Zoom calls with Financial Consultants and Agency Leaders as part of servicing duties, and with Business Development Managers and Directors to explain underwriting decisions
• Process customer requests end to end
• Support Financial Consultants on underwriting matters and take part in ad hoc projects

Required profile

• Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in life underwriting
• Degree in Nursing or Biomedical Science/Engineering
• ACII, ANZIIF, ALU or LOMAE qualification
• Sound knowledge of medical conditions, insurance laws and regulations, and a good understanding of insurance products
• Customer-oriented, with good interpersonal and communication skills, confident in problem solving and decision making, and with project management skills
