The engineer designs and optimizes Plasma-CVD or diffusion for Micron's NAND Flash products, taking ideas from conception through process development to implementation in manufacturing facilities. The role involves running highly technical projects, may require business travel and occasional weekend support of the R&D pilot line.

Key responsibilities

  • Plasma-CVD or thermal diffusion process characterization, optimization, design, troubleshooting, process transfer and fundamental research
  • Design and deliver process packages meeting product specifications, program targets and timelines
  • Characterize processes using SEM, TEM, XPS, SIMS, AFM and similar techniques, design experiments, analyze data and present results
  • Run the R&D pilot line in the fab, improve process maturity and capability, and update fab engineers on customer issues and technology needs
  • Support root cause defect and unique fail-mode analysis
  • Develop recipes meeting structural and electrical requirements and manage wafers through thin-film levels for special requirements
  • Work in cross-functional teams on array and CMOS structures, failure analysis and yield improvement
  • Share expertise with peers and integrate AI-assisted tools into daily work

Required profile

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field; BS/MS plus 5 years of equivalent industry or research experience may substitute for a PhD
  • Understanding of transport phenomena, electromagnetics, atomic/molecular physics and surface phenomena
  • Strong troubleshooting, experimental design and data analysis skills
  • Open to working off shifts and weekends, and to domestic and international travel

Required skills

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office
  • Preferred: plasma physics background, understanding of CVD and diffusion deposition, rudimentary knowledge of process control and SPC, understanding of solid-state devices and semiconductor processes
  • Highly preferred: advanced data analysis techniques and scripting
