Software Architect, Robotics & Fleet Platforms

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Software Architect to lead the design and evolution of its service robotics and fleet platforms. You will define the technical roadmap, ensure scalability, and guide a lean software team in delivering product‑grade solutions for globally deployed cobots.

Key responsibilities

• Define software architecture, technical roadmap, and interface strategy for embedded software, fleet connectivity, diagnostics, observability, simulation, and lifecycle tooling.
• Ensure project and program technical objectives are clearly defined, resourced, and risk‑managed before execution.
• Lead a dedicated software team, shaping operating models across central software groups and external partners.
• Partner with central software organizations on standards, tooling, security, compliance, and release practices.
• Document and govern all phases of architecture, development, validation, deployment, and support.
• Drive adoption of new software technologies and methods, integrating them into Applied Materials products and services.

Required profile

• Deep understanding of software architecture, robotics software stacks, integration patterns, release management, and product lifecycle management.
• Leadership experience influencing senior stakeholders, allocating resources, and building structure in early‑stage product environments.
• Ability to impact business outcomes through roadmaps, technical governance, supplier alignment, and scalable practices.
• Strong communication skills to convey strategy, trade‑offs, and risks to engineering teams and cross‑functional partners.
