Staff Engineer – Organic & Inorganic Chemistry

About the role

Seagate's Lubricant Laboratory in Singapore is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the synthesis and optimisation of organic and fluorocarbon lubricants that enhance the performance of storage technologies. You will work within a structured R&D organisation, collaborating with cross‑functional engineering, materials science and product development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, execute and optimise synthetic routes for lubricant candidates.
• Purify and characterise end‑products using advanced analytical techniques.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations and scientific publications.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure safety compliance and support routine lab operations.
• Work independently on projects with minimal supervision while contributing to business‑critical initiatives.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Chemistry (prefer Organic/Organometallic) or a Chemistry degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Proven track record of research excellence demonstrated through publications or patents.
• Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, strong communicator and effective team player.

Required skills

• Organic chemistry synthesis and characterisation.
• Experience with GPC, HPLC, LC‑TOF, FTIR and ToF‑SIMS.
• Problem‑solving in a laboratory environment.
