Staff Engineer - Process Development, Cell Film, NAND

About the role

Micron is hiring a Staff Engineer for its Process Development team working on cell film thin film processes (ALD/CVD) for NAND. The engineer develops, optimizes and characterizes these processes to meet performance, reliability and manufacturability targets, supports scaling across nodes and platforms, and owns defined parts of a module or sub-module under guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, optimize and characterize thin film processes (ALD/CVD); design and run experiments, analyze data and turn results into process improvements.
• Support scaling of cell film processes across nodes and platforms.
• Own portions of a process module, track margins, sensitivities and integration risks, and drive resolution of process and tool issues.
• Work with integration and device teams to ensure compatibility and electrical performance, correlating material, structural and electrical data.
• Support failure analysis and root-cause investigations for yield and reliability issues.
• Build hands-on knowledge of cell film equipment, support tool qualification, upgrades and platform transfers, and partner with suppliers to improve stability and capability.
• Communicate results through reports, reviews and data summaries, escalate risks with data-driven recommendations, and mentor junior engineers.
• Use AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency and quality, and share AI-enabled improvements with the team.

Required profile

• PhD with at least 3 years, or Master's with at least 5 years, or Bachelor's with at least 7 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
• Experience in thin film R&D for microelectronic devices, with a proven track record of leading complex technology development.
• Structured problem-solving and learning agility in an R&D environment, clear communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Required skills

• Strong fundamentals in ALD/CVD and materials characterization.
• Working knowledge of plasma processes, vacuum systems and chemical reactions.
• Familiarity with electrical test methods and fab metrology tools.
• Understanding of NAND cell structures and basic device physics.
