Technical Manager (Concrete)

About the role

Sika (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sika AG, manufactures, trades and supplies specialty construction chemicals. As Technical Manager (Concrete), you will mainly lead laboratory trials and applications, organise team resources daily and give technical support to customers, evaluate new and alternative raw materials and help develop products for the concrete target market. You also support the implementation of sales strategies and policies in the assigned area.

Key responsibilities

• Run material preparation, trial mixes, product demos and wet/dry sample preparation in line with standard procedures, and supervise the team's daily planning and priorities.
• Provide technical recommendations based on product performance compared with competitors, and support sales and customers before and after sales.
• Visit customers, collect field information on product performance and technical needs, and act as troubleshooter and consultant on complaints, including site visits and investigation reports.
• Evaluate new and alternative raw materials and optimise product formulations to improve margins or reduce complexity.
• Document and review test results, report abnormal results to the supervisor and recommend improvements.
• Prepare samples accurately for laboratory evaluation and customer requests, and liaise with independent laboratories and the production and QC teams on new products and troubleshooting.
• Maintain lab equipment, keep confidential information such as BOMs and raw materials, and share knowledge of new technologies with sales and marketing.
• Manage and develop the concrete team, and carry out ad-hoc duties.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years in a laboratory environment dealing with construction chemicals, and at least 5 years in a technical support role in the construction chemicals industry.
• Experience in the ready-mix concrete industry is an added advantage.
• Able to work in the lab and outdoors, work outside usual hours and off days, and travel as needed.
