Legal Counsel – APAC Commodities & Capital Markets

About the role

Join Marex as a Legal Counsel supporting the APAC physical commodities trading and capital markets businesses. You will manage legal risk, advise on contracts, regulatory matters and new product implementations across a diverse portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate physical commodities contracts, including sale and purchase, transportation and storage agreements.
• Draft and negotiate financial market agreements such as ISDA, Initial Margin, Prime Brokerage, GMRA, GMSLA, execution and clearing agreements.
• Advise trading desks on legal issues arising from day‑to‑day operations, disputes, new product initiatives and regulatory developments in APAC and globally.
• Assess legal risks of new product structures, trading strategies and cross‑border activities, and support dispute resolution and pre‑litigation strategy.
• Manage external counsel, monitor costs and ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley, local regulators and internal risk frameworks.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 5–10 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in‑house or at a top‑tier law firm.
• Demonstrated experience in commodities trading and financial markets contracts (ISDA, GMRA, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of physical commodities markets, international trade law, shipping and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to present complex legal issues clearly.
• Academic record of at least a 2.1 degree classification.
