Mechanical Design Engineer (Quantum Sensors)

About the role

Atomionics is building quantum gravity sensors that rely on ultra‑cold atom interferometry. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will create, prototype, test and manufacture the mechanical subsystems that make these sensors robust and field‑ready.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, design and assemble mechanical subsystems that integrate electronics, mechatronics, thermal, laser optics and vacuum technologies.
• Produce CAD models, detailed drawings and assembly instructions for vendors (CNC machining, sheet‑metal fabrication, 3D printing, cable harnesses).
• Optimise designs for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) to enable batch production.
• Perform hands‑on assembly of precision metal and optical components.

Required profile

• Highly motivated individual with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficient in CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Deep knowledge of manufacturing techniques, surface finishing and assembly processes.
• Experienced with GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Skilled in hands‑on fabrication including lathe work, CNC machining, laser cutting and 3D printing.
