Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimisation of mechanical components, assemblies and systems. This position applies advanced engineering principles to deliver innovative, high-quality, cost-effective and manufacturable solutions while providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and complete systems.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings and technical specifications using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Perform design calculations, simulations, tolerance analysis and ensure compliance with functional, safety, regulatory and quality requirements.
• Manage mechanical design projects from concept through production, defining scope, schedules, milestones and deliverables.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality and procurement.
• Review and approve engineering designs, support prototype development, testing and validation, and investigate design-related failures.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimise designs for manufacturability and collaborate with manufacturing to resolve production issues.
• Support tooling design, assembly processes and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to best-practice standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6–10+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Proven track record in product design and development, preferably in automation, robotics or mechatronics.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
