Instrument Technician – Central Sterile Support

About the role

The Instrument Technician ensures the safe and efficient provision of sterile and reusable surgical instruments across operating theatres, outpatient clinics and procedural rooms. The role combines hands‑on processing with supervision of junior staff to maintain high standards of infection control.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily CSSD operations: receiving, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilisation, storage and distribution.
• Operate and monitor washer‑disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers and sterilisers, including test indicator evaluation.
• Conduct inventory management of sterile linen and surgical consumables and issue supplies to supported areas.
• Track preventive‑maintenance schedules for all processing equipment and report defects.
• Supervise, mentor and guide junior staff while ensuring clear handover of critical information.
• Liaise with operating‑theatre nurses regarding instrument sets and coordinate repairs or replacements.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering or related technical qualification.
• WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare Support (Sterilisation Services) – preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in a CSSD or similar environment.
• Strong written English skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
