Research Fellow – Transportation Engineering

About the role

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to advance an AI‑assisted, data‑driven road safety analytics framework. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to integrate diverse transport datasets and develop machine‑learning models that support evidence‑based safety interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate and manage multi‑source transport datasets (traffic flow, telematics, road geometry, signal timing, incident records).
• Design and conduct simulation experiments to evaluate safety interventions and quantify impacts.
• Translate analytical outputs into actionable insights and decision‑support tools for road‑safety management.
• Contribute to the development of a GIS‑based platform for visualization, monitoring, and policy support.
• Prepare technical reports, research publications, and project documentation.

Required profile

• PhD degree in transportation engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong background in data analytics and computer programming.
• Knowledge of traffic safety, urban transportation studies, traffic flow theory, and operations research.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
