In-House Legal Counsel (Construction Law)

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join the team. This role is pivotal in safeguarding the company’s legal interests and providing strategic legal support across our operations, focusing on commercial and operational aspects of construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal finance and operations teams and external clients to manage contract execution and administration.
• Review, negotiate and finalize main contracts, subcontract agreements and supplier agreements in line with legal standards and company policies.
• Identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Oversee contract milestones, deliverables and obligations to ensure full compliance.
• Monitor contract performance, address deviations, claims or disputes and represent the company’s interests.
• Provide legal and strategic advice on commercial terms, pricing strategies and contract negotiations to maximize project profitability.
• Review tenders and bid documents for legal accuracy, advise on risks and support preparation of extension of time, progress and loss & expense claims.
• Assist in resolving commercial disputes and support negotiations with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support project teams in recovery plans and advise on expediting suppliers to meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Certified lawyer, called to the Bar and in good standing in Singapore or a recognized common‑law jurisdiction.
• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience with strong background in construction law and BCA regulations.
• Proven experience in contract, trade and commercial transactions within the construction or engineering industry.
