Legal Counsel – In‑House Role in Singapore Petrochemical Business

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Legal Counsel to join our team as the second in‑house lawyer. The position provides broad exposure to the legal and commercial dimensions of a major petrochemical business in Singapore, allowing you to own a diverse portfolio of matters from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal support to business functions on commercial and operational issues.
• Assist with corporate secretarial duties, including board and shareholder documentation.
• Support compliance initiatives covering anti‑bribery, sanctions, data protection and corporate governance.
• Develop internal policies, legal templates and guidance materials.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and help implement new requirements.
• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda and training materials.
• Collaborate with the Legal Manager on special projects and other legal matters.

Required profile

• LLB from a recognised university with admission to practice law.
• 1‑4 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and issue‑spotting abilities.
• Commercially minded and eager to learn in a broad in‑house role.
• Prior in‑house or corporate secretarial experience and familiarity with the Singapore Companies Act is an advantage.
• Experience in energy, petrochemical, commodities, manufacturing, shipping or logistics sectors is a plus.
• Knowledge of global sanctions, AML, anti‑bribery/corruption and data protection frameworks is desirable.
