Medical Laboratory Technologist – Histology (Pathology Department)

About the role

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist specialized in histology to support diagnostic and treatment services. You will work on routine and complex histological procedures, ensuring high‑quality slide preparation for pathologists.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and code laboratory specimens, reject non‑conforming samples.
• Assist pathologists with specimen trimming and evaluation.
• Perform processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and complex staining, mounting, labeling, and block checks.
• Gross simple specimens and conduct frozen cryo‑sectioning.
• Provide after‑hours support for liver transplant and renal explant services.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Monitor quality of staining and sectioning to meet standards.
• Train new personnel and deliver in‑house continuing‑education sessions.
• Prepare reagents, manage inventory, and support internal and external audits.
• Follow laboratory SOPs, safety manuals, and good laboratory practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Biological, Life Sciences or Biomedical Science (preferred).
• Relevant experience in a histology laboratory.
• Strong initiative, teamwork, communication, multitasking and time‑management abilities.
• Proficiency with laboratory computer systems and software.
