Academic Manager

About the role

The Academic Manager will lead the continuous improvement of British Council’s English language teaching products and services. This role ensures that teaching quality, assessment standards and learning outcomes meet the organisation’s high expectations across both new and existing offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Proposition, Product and Teaching Excellence teams to embed best‑practice pedagogy and assessment across all services.
• Oversee teaching quality, consistency and the implementation of initiatives such as TEAP, TCPR, L&D, safeguarding, EDI and SEND.
• Monitor product and service performance, KPIs, risks and reporting; support rollout of new products and pilots.
• Provide market insights and customer trends to inform marketing strategies and commercial growth.
• Lead academic teams, manage workforce planning, capability development and coaching while modelling brand and compliance standards.
• Build strong relationships with Operations, Marketing, Customer Services and other stakeholder groups to enhance customer experience.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, security, financial and anti‑fraud policies.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
• TEFL‑Q or British Council recognised equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in managing academic or teaching‑related teams.
• Strong understanding of English language teaching, assessment and quality assurance.
