About the role

With mobile devices used for everything from communication and entertainment to banking and shopping, malware on mobile devices has grown rapidly. This internship project, lasting 2 to 4 months, aims to research anti-malware functionality and applications on Android or iOS and assess their effectiveness. It is open to undergraduate and pre-university students.

Key responsibilities

  • Study how mobile malware performs malicious activities and hides from victims.
  • Research an anti-malware application and understand how it detects and mitigates mobile malware.
  • Assess the effectiveness of anti-malware features on existing mobile devices at detecting and mitigating malware.
  • Explore ways to improve detection and mitigation of mobile malware.

Required profile

  • Strong interest in mobile device security.
  • Applicants should state a preference for Android or iOS if they have one.

Required skills

  • Basic C/C++ programming and mobile application development.
  • A basic understanding of reverse engineering and ARM assembly language is an advantage.
