Assistant Director, AI Healthcare Projects Delivery

About the role

Reporting to the HEAL Programme Lead, the Assistant Director, AI Project Delivery helps clinical and operational teams turn AI opportunities into solutions that are implemented, used and deliver measurable value. The role leads and develops the project delivery team, providing oversight or direct project leadership depending on each project's needs. It involves working with stakeholders to understand their operational problems and achieving agreed outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, ownership, resources and milestones with sponsors and teams, and manage delivery risks, dependencies, budgets and scope changes
• Coordinate clinical, operational and technical teams, the Digital Innovation Studio, data scientists and partners, and obtain specialist advice through established governance
• Work with operational owners on workflow changes, user engagement, training, readiness, support and handover into routine operations, and track utilisation and user feedback
• Agree benefit measures and baselines with sponsors and evaluate colleagues, track and report costs and realised value, and recommend action where outcomes fall short
• Lead, train and coach the project delivery team, allocate work, review delivery quality and supervise direct reports
• Understand AI implementation requirements and coordinate specialist input into project planning and delivery

Required profile

• Relevant qualifications in healthcare, business, information technology, project management or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Substantial experience leading complex digital or transformation projects through implementation and adoption
• Experience helping stakeholders solve operational problems, managing difficult relationships and securing commitments without direct authority
• Practical experience of change management, utilisation monitoring and benefits tracking
• Experience leading, training and coaching delivery teams

Required skills

• Working understanding of AI concepts, implementation workflows, model limitations, evaluation, human oversight and monitoring
• Clear writing, presentation and communication with frontline staff, technical teams and senior leadership
• Advantageous: PMP or formal change management training, and experience in AI project delivery, healthcare and software development
