Assistant Director - Deputy Director (Market & Regulatory Design)

About the role

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is recruiting an Assistant Director (Deputy Director) to lead its Market & Regulatory Design (MRD) branch within the Energy Connections Office. The role drives EMA's work on electricity imports and regional power grids so that Singapore can access cleaner energy resources beyond its borders, while keeping the power system secure, reliable and sustainable.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team that ensures regional renewable energy projects and electricity imports are delivered on time through policy and regulatory measures and stakeholder partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Nurture and guide the MRD team to deliver the strategic outcomes for Singapore and EMA.
• Manage cross-agency policy and operational trade-offs needed to bring in large-scale electricity imports.
• Engage industry stakeholders and financial institutions to gather feedback on electricity import policies.
• Ensure electricity import projects are implemented on time.

Required profile

• Keen interest in energy transition issues and passion for the public service.
• 8 years of relevant experience in policy development, industry engagement and/or the energy sector, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, challenging the status quo and proposing new solutions.
• Willingness to travel overseas for work.
• An advantage: prior experience in electricity trading, industry engagement, financial modelling, economics or a related field.

Required skills

• Excellent verbal communication, analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong understanding of technology concepts and trends, with an eye on their economic implications.
• Familiarity with tools and methodologies for techno-economic analysis.
• Understanding of financing models and tools for infrastructure projects.
