Assistant Director, Research Office (Biostatistics Unit)

About the role

NUHS Research Office is seeking an experienced Biostatistician to lead its Biostatistics Unit on a two-year contract. The role drives clinical trial activity at NUHS, taking responsibility for statistical work, scientific and operational, in collaboration with the clinical trial team. It also leads course development and teaching of statistics courses within PhD and Master programmes, runs workshops and talks on biostatistics, and mentors the unit's staff.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and conduct statistical tasks to enhance NUHS's reputation as a global clinical trial site, including developing clinical trial methodology and ensuring compliance, effectiveness and risk mitigation
• Spearhead research activities such as grant and publication submissions to improve success rates
• Promote medical research practice through statistical consultations
• Lead course development, teaching and workshops in biostatistics
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the Biostatistics Unit

Required profile

• PhD in Statistics or related qualification
• Proven senior management track record with leadership abilities
• Minimum 20 years of relevant experience, including at least 10 years in managerial and supervisory roles
• Substantial teaching experience
• Confidence engaging with senior management and external stakeholders
• Ability to multi-task and work independently under tight deadlines

• Designing and analysing clinical research studies, including clinical trials and epidemiological research
• SPSS, STATA, SAS, R and Canvas
• Strong analytical, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
