Assistant Manager/Manager – University Communications

About the role

The successful candidate will advance the University’s communications and outreach efforts for the humanities and social sciences portfolio. You will develop newsworthy stories, build media opportunities, and create content that showcases the impact of education, research, and broader initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop newsworthy stories and publicity opportunities for HSS faculties, schools and units.
• Translate academic ideas, research and developments into clear, compelling stories for media and wider audiences.
• Bring creativity and agility to spot fresh angles, tap timely trends and drive publicity outcomes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, social media content owners and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor media developments and emerging trends, providing communications advice to stakeholders.
• Contribute to other duties, projects and publicity opportunities beyond the HSS portfolio to support broader communications goals.

Required profile

• Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, branding or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in media relations, public relations, journalism or strategic communications.
• Experience in multimedia storytelling or content creation across platforms is an advantage.
• Curious, enterprising and creative mindset with enthusiasm for new approaches.
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong writing, editing and content development skills.
• Strong news sense, resourcefulness and ability to develop resonant story angles.
• Self‑starter who works well in a team, proactive, organized, meticulous and able to multitask.
