Associate Counsel

About the role

The Associate Counsel will work under the guidance of senior legal leadership to provide comprehensive legal support across the organization. This position focuses on the marine and offshore classification sector, helping ABS navigate complex regulatory and commercial environments.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the development and interpretation of ABS policies.
• Provide direction to support staff, monitor progress, and recommend improvements.
• Conduct legal projects and research as directed by senior counsel.
• Advise on employment, labor, intellectual property, data privacy, insurance, litigation, and bankruptcy matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents.
• Prepare correspondence, legal memoranda, and reports.
• Collaborate with external counsel on various legal issues.
• Identify potential legal risks and develop proactive strategies.

Required profile

• LL.B. or J.D. in Jurisprudence.
• 0–3 years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong interest in the marine industry.
• Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage and organize support‑staff activities.
• Willingness to acquire knowledge of ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System (internal candidates).
