Associate/Assistant Director, Financial Advisers Supervision

About the role

The Financial Advisers Supervision Department (FAS) admits and supervises financial advisory intermediaries, including banks and insurers providing financial advisory services and insurance brokers. It administers rules and regulations under the Financial Advisers Act and the Insurance Act to uphold market conduct standards. This Associate/Assistant Director role sits in a team supervising financial institutions carrying out financial advisory and insurance broking activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of financial institutions' risk management systems, internal controls and market conduct practices, through onsite inspection and offsite review.
• Take part in reviews covering supervision of financial institutions, legislative changes and current processes.
• Conduct data analytics, such as refining or developing supervisory indicators, as part of supervision.
• Interact with other MAS departments and external parties such as audit firms, industry bodies, foreign regulators and other government agencies.

Required profile

• Knowledge and experience in financial institutions conducting financial advisory activities.
• Ability to multi-task, meet tight timelines and work in a fast-paced environment while managing stakeholder priorities.
• Self-motivated and driven; applicants may need to complete a medical declaration during shortlisting.

Required skills

• Strong audit and analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to spot broad trends.
• Experience using AI to solve business and operational problems.
• Comfortable working with data, including data visualisation tools; advanced analytics is an advantage.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
