Automation Specialist (Electrical)

About the role

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global medical technology company, is hiring an Automation Specialist (Electrical) at its Tuas plant in Singapore. You will provide technical expertise supporting manufacturing by helping with machine enhancement, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of machines, project execution, accountability on production waste and quality of machine tool operations, and overall technician resource management. Day shifts during training are 7:00am to 4:00pm; the permanent schedule is a 12-hour night shift from 7pm to 7am (pattern 3/4/4/3).

Key responsibilities

• Maintain machines to meet production output, quality and waste targets.
• Perform preventive maintenance (cleaning, servicing, replacing parts).
• Troubleshoot machines to meet production, safety and quality standards.
• Initiate, implement and follow up on machine enhancement and project assignments.
• Write standard work instructions and procedures for assigned operations.
• Carry out corrective and preventive actions.
• Train and coach technicians and new hires on machine operation and adjustment.
• Assist engineers or subject matter experts on continuous improvement activities.

Required profile

• 1-2 years of experience in electrical control and automation.
• Ability to commit to the 12-hour night shift (7pm to 7am).
• Ability to interpret electrical or electronics wiring and schematic diagrams.
• Ability to interpret pneumatic diagrams.
• Ability to troubleshoot machinery issues involving electrical, electronic or pneumatic components.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of sensors (reflective, proximity) and switches for assembly line applications.
• Basic knowledge of electrical hardware (HMI, motor and controller).
• Basic knowledge of industry vision systems (e.g. Cognex, Keyence).
• Basic knowledge of PLCs such as Omron or Allen Bradley is an advantage.
