Cargo Operator – Bulk Coal & Iron Ore

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cargo Operator to manage end‑to‑end execution of bulk commodity trades, focusing on coal and iron ore. The role involves coordinating shipments, handling documentation, and ensuring timely settlement across trading, shipping, and logistics functions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full trade lifecycle from contract execution to final settlement for bulk shipments.
• Coordinate vessel nominations, laycan schedules, and cargo movement with traders, suppliers, shipowners, brokers, and port agents.
• Monitor loading/discharge activities, vessel turnaround, and demurrage/despatch management.
• Prepare, review, and manage trade documentation such as contracts, invoices, letters of credit, bills of lading, certificates, and customs documents.
• Liaise with finance teams on invoicing, payment follow‑ups, and settlement matters.
• Track cargo positions, inventory movements, and shipment status for operational efficiency.
• Handle operational issues, discrepancies, claims, and exceptions to minimise commercial risk.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, trade regulations, internal controls, and risk policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, Business, Logistics or a related field.
• 5–8 years of trade operations experience in commodities trading, shipping, or dry‑bulk logistics.
• Proven experience handling bulk commodities, specifically coal and/or iron ore.
• Background in medium to high shipment volume environments such as trading houses, shipping companies, or mining firms.
• Strong knowledge of dry‑bulk shipping operations, Incoterms, charter party terms, and trade documentation.
• Familiarity with demurrage/despatch calculations, claims handling, and vessel operations.
• Detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving and coordination capabilities in a fast‑paced trading environment.
